"I recite my composition concerning the King"(Psalm 45:1b) |

There is an abundance of opinions about the Bible: what it is and what it means. This can easily leave any inquirer confused. But the confusion could be greatly reduced if a person learned how to read the Bible well. In other words, if sound principles of interpretation were followed, the Bible does make sense: it is a book to be understood and its truths applied to our lives.
Benno Kurvits enunciates twenty principles of interpretation that can assist the reader in understanding it well. He provides Biblical support and rationale for each one, and utilizes numerous examples and illustrations to enhance his arguments. This book is designed to help Christians enjoy the Bible more---to read and study it better. It can also help anyone who is interested in understanding what the Bible is all about. |

"Particularly poignant for me were the chapters he has written relating to the relationship between the covenants, and the character traits God enjoins upon us as readers, subject matter that is critical if we are to profit from His word."

Endorsements for Outrun the Bear
"As a sports fan I relived many of the moments shared. The narrative flowed easily and the
balance between biblical message and sporting realities were tied together nicely.
"I was encouraged and challenged. The chapters dealt with real issues in the world of sport and the connections to basic Christianity were well conceived. The author sought to be practical and real, and I believe he accomplished that! The breadth of sports covered was refreshing.
"In terms of substance, this book has a solid message. In terms of style, it has an easy flow."
Mark Hudson
Retired math teacher, coach, and principal at Hillfield Strathallan College, Hamilton, ON
"The writing style made for easy reading. It contained a pleasant mix of personal humor, anecdotes and examples from sports history, along with solid advice and wisdom from the Word of God. It was both entertaining and enlightening, and also instructional for our Christian youth to remind them of who they represent and shows an excellent perspective that is often lost.
"This is a very practical book. From the lessons that are taught to the suggested implementation of the ideas it gives a concrete way to grow in strength (not just our physical strength) to outrun the bear."
Marian Ysinga
Christian Home Educator and former Athletics Coordinator for TEACH Home Educators of Brant
"Outrun the Bear is written with passion and a sincere intentionality. Benno gives such clear, yet richly intertwining, connections between sport and faith. An exceptional resource for Christian educators, coaches and athletes.
"The way Benno articulates the topics and links them to biblical stories is exactly the type of resource a coach/teacher drools over. There were many times while I was reading that I thought of a particular athlete this would help, or how this would make a great devotional, or how it opened my eyes to a new perspective. Just great!"
Katie Plaisier
Science and Physical Education Teacher, Woodland Christian High School
Former Redeemer Royals varsity athlete
"Everything looks different once you give your life to Christ. I've never been able to so clearly view the world of sports and competition through the lens of faith as Benno has been able to articulate. He makes a strong statement of the power of faith to shape and strengthen athletes, coaches, and everyone else in the sport experiences of life. He deftly recounts both biblical stories and sports history that shed light on how we might view God's desires for us in the sporting world. Everyone involved in sport should read this book!"
